Seriously what app isn't out there that can't connect people? We now have the ability to connect with friends not only across the country but across the world. Social media is such a beautiful thing. Yet there are sometimes we are kicking ourselves for this so called "connecting" tool.
How many social apps does a girl really need? Let me count: Foursquare, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn (professional),umm what else? I'm sure I'm missing a ton of them. Connecting is great. Don't you ever sometimes want to just crawl in a hole and say no to social media? For just a few minute? Maybe a few hours? Try to get away from the constant "liking" of posts and Retweeting Tweets.
When I get super busy, I don't usually use social media. However, I miss that "likeness" and what's going on in this social media/cyber world. I think it can be a little bit of "self perception" and how you view yourself. I tell myself, "you don't need people to "accept" what you posted. You posted it for a reason..and displayed it to the universe. If people respond, awesome. If not, hey it's alright. You know, I can instantly snap out of it when I think of the ones that I love. I love my family, friends etc. Especially spending time with my friends and family. I try my best to not have my eyes glued to my phone. I'm hanging out w/ actual people for a reason and hopefully they feel the same.
Another aspect of social media is you get an "outward" expression of yourself. You have the power to share your voice. Anything really! Totally awesome, right? Right? When you finish posting that Facebook post or tweet on Twitter, you probably get one of two things: pure enjoyment or hmmm did I just post that? Luckily, technology has given us the grace of the "delete" button.
Posting something to Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram is a public way of displaying yourself. Fact. Whether you think this is a private matter, it's not. So get over it :). People are entitled to their opinion and visa versa. Sometimes such a simple post on Facebook or Tweet can stir up such a fire. Sometimes a little too heated. However, we are human. We say stupid things. We say intelligent things. Like Ke$ha says, "we are who we are."
So maybe think before you post? But what's the fun in that? There's something about just posting what you "FEEL" and not "Thinking." Yet it's the contradiction of stepping on people's toes. It's truly your choice and yours alone. Enjoy social media but be sure to enjoy the people in your life. GIve them the undivided attention they need. So happy posting. Happy Instagraming and tweeting.
